Football here refers to gridiron football (including American Football and Canadian Football). Football is played on field marked with parallel lines resembling a gridiron. The game is played between two teams of 11 on each team on the field at one time. The object of the game is to gain control of the ball and move it (by kicking, passing or carrying it) to between two end zones of 10 yards between the goal posts located on the opponent's side of the field to score points. The passing is usually the duty of the Quarterback but not limited to, while the running can be done by several players such as runningbacks, quarterback and sometimes receivers. The receivers are usually the ones in which the quarterback throws to, but may also throw to any of the backfield players as well (no lineman may be thrown the ball unless declared to the referee before the play, which rarely happens). There are 4 quarters of play with a halftime break in between the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Overtime is played if the teams are tied and only if a playoff game, will extra OTs (sudden death) be played if still tied after one, or two. Players are protected by several types of padding, from head to toe. Helmets are worn with face masks to protect their face and skull. Neckpads from neck injuries are sometimes worn but not by all. Shoulder pads, hip pads, thigh pads, knee pads, tailbone pads, shin guards, forearm pads, gloves, and ribcage pads some of the usual pads worn. Some players will choose not to wear some to increase their ability to run faster or kick better. The main goal is to move the ball down to the goal line or kick the ball thru da goal posts to score points. Team with most points after 4 quarters wins.
